This 2013 MGP 95/5 rye was already well into its maturation when it came to Colorado. Then we gave it another 18 months at altitude.
Aging in Colorado is a different game. Our dry air, big daily temperature swings and changing barometric pressure keep the whiskey moving in and out of the oak. For a rye that was already more than a decade old, those extra months made a big difference.
The result is anything but a typical 95/5 rye. It's dark, robust and rich. The rye spice is still there, but it's wrapped in deep, mature oak and layers of complexity that build with every sip. At 110.8 proof it has plenty of strength to carry all that flavor without overwhelming it. It will win over bourbon drinkers as easily as rye fans.
That's why we age mature whiskey in Colorado. We're not trying to erase where it came from. We want to see what Colorado can add to it.
Miami Bourbon Society found a great one. Only a limited number of bottles are available, so now's your chance to find out for yourself.
